Do You Think A Parallel Universe Exists?

I think that alternate timelines can definitely exist. Every choice you make changes you and your future at least a little. The question makes me think of the butterfly effect where one small action can incredibly change the course of your life. I forgot when or what this was, but I remember watching a movie where they describe parallel universes. Every choice you make splits the universe in two, making another dimension. The first dimension is the one you're in, with the choice you made, and the second is the you who made the other choice.

I think everyone reading this knows that I’m partial to philosophy. A few summers ago, I asked people the following question:

Imagine there are 1,000 randomly selected parallel universes in which you exist. All these universes are at least slightly different from each other and you are slightly different in each one. These differences may be from the choices you’ve made. However, each version of you has certain qualities. If you’re smart, you’re probably smart in every dimension, if you love animals, that’s probably the same too. So, keeping all that in mind, do you think you’re an above average version of yourself, an average version, or a below average version?

Most people I asked said that they thought they were an above average version of themselves. I don’t think that was always the best answer, or even the most flattering answer. If someone is not good at their job, if they don’t have any hobbies, and they generally don’t have much going for them, it’s not good to say that compared to 999 other versions of themself, their above average. If they say they are that means that the best possible version of theirself isn’t that good. Maybe it’s true though. Some people’s best version of themselves may be way more accomplished than someone else’s best version. Anyways, I thought this was a good way to evaluate how you’re doing.

I heard this theory that said any alternate dimension you could think of exists. So that means all TV show, book, and movie worlds are real in their own dimension. I kind of hope that’s true. If anyone ever finds out how to travel to alternate dimensions, I’m heading to Avatar (the last airbender, not the blue people). I just realized that Rick and Morty demonstrates the alternate versions of you idea. Every Rick is smart, most ricks are jerks, and some ricks are human. The Rick from the show is the rickest Rick and he’s aware of what he, in alternate dimensions, is capable of doing. Rick is the worst but at least he’s self aware.

This blog post got really off topic but what else are blog posts for?

See you in two weeks.
